Benin appoints Claudy Siar as special advisor on culture and media
The former host of Couleurs Tropicales has been named this Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as Special Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of culture, media, and Benin’s international visibility.
Claudy Siar, renowned for his Couleurs Tropicales radio show, has been appointed Special Advisor to Benin’s President Romuald Wadagni, overseeing culture, media, and the nation’s global profile.
This appointment marks a significant career shift for the outspoken panafricanist. After departing Radio France Internationale (RFI) in late March 2026, Siar’s exit coincided with the conclusion of his contract and a broader restructuring of the station’s programming. His long-running show, Couleurs Tropicales—which he hosted since 1995—was discontinued as part of these changes.
The decision followed months of public debate. Siar had openly criticized what he described as systemic exclusion of African voices in global media and the influence of Western political agendas in African affairs. RFI’s management, however, cited a strategic pivot toward a fresh musical direction as the reason for his departure and the show’s cancellation.
With over three decades at RFI, Siar is now embarking on a new venture with NewWorld TV, where he will play a key role in launching two new channels: NewWorld Mix and NewWorld Muzik.
