Boko haram attack leaves eight dead in northern Cameroon village

Eight lives lost and one injured in a brutal Boko Haram assault on a remote northern Cameroon village

In the dead of night, armed militants launched a devastating attack on Kangaleri, a village nestled in the Mayo-Sava department of Cameroon’s Far North region. The assault, which unfolded just past 11:00 PM local time, sent shockwaves through the community, leaving behind a trail of grief and destruction.

The initial toll stood at six fatalities, with three more victims sustaining critical injuries. Despite urgent medical intervention, two of the wounded succumbed to their injuries, raising the provisional death count to eight. One survivor remained under medical care the following day, according to local health authorities.

The attackers, exhibiting their familiar pattern of cowardice, struck under the cover of darkness before vanishing into the night. Authorities continue to investigate the precise circumstances of the assault and the identities of those who perished.

Meanwhile, another raid attributed to Boko Haram was reported in Tourou, a settlement within the Mokolo district near the Nigerian border. Witnesses described how the assailants looted livestock and personal belongings before ransacking a local market close to the town’s center. Authorities have yet to release any information regarding potential casualties from this second incident.

The Far North region of Cameroon has long been a flashpoint for Boko Haram and splinter factions, despite ongoing counter-insurgency operations led by Cameroonian forces and their allies in the Multinational Joint Task Force operating in the Lake Chad basin.
