In a message marking the feast of the martyrs Charles Lwanga and his companions, Bishop Sikuli Paluku Melchisédech of the Butembo-Beni diocese in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has strongly interpellated the country’s authorities. The bishop expressed deep bitterness over what he described as a serious disconnect between the preoccupations of politicians and the real, legitimate needs of the Congolese people, as the security and social crisis worsens in his diocese.
