The political landscape of Côte d’Ivoire is undergoing a significant transformation following the announcement by Dr. Ahoua Don Mello, a former presidential candidate, to formalize his movement into a fully-fledged political party. This initiative, unveiled during a landmark assembly in Abidjan on July 11, 2026, marks a new chapter in the nation’s democratic journey.
Dr. Ahoua Don Mello, former presidential candidate, announces the launch of his new political party in Côte d’Ivoire.
From Movement to Political Force
The decision to transition from a supporting movement to a structured political party was made during a plenary session attended by key members and campaign allies. The assembly, held under the chairmanship of Ipou Ludovic and assisted by Ahile Fernand (Léo Côte d’Ivoire) as secretary, unanimously endorsed the creation of this new political entity. Brou Jean-Baptiste served as rapporteur for the proceedings.
The initiative stems from extensive deliberations led by a reflection commission, headed by Me Sery Zokou. This commission included prominent figures such as Kouamé Kouakou (OK), director of cabinet, Claudel Guiguy, Askène Cissé, Franck Stéphane Dedy, and Arsène Touho. Their report, presented by Sery Sara Soko (deputy director of cabinet) and supported by Mathieu N’Guatta (chief of cabinet), Sara Dominique, Ami Traoré, and Danon Goubo Armel Fabrice (Atho Belé), underscored the necessity of establishing a formal political structure.
A Vision for Sovereignty and Alternance
The newly announced party aims to champion a sovereignist and alternative political project for Côte d’Ivoire. Its core values include democracy, social justice, good governance, solidarity, and national sovereignty. By positioning itself as a force for progress and renewal, the party seeks to contribute to the nation’s development and renaissance.
During the session, Dr. Ahoua Don Mello expressed gratitude to the participants for their trust and outlined the foundational principles of the upcoming political project. He extended a call to patriotism, progressivism, democracy, and sovereignty-aligned forces, urging them to unite around this initiative to build “a fairer, more prosperous, more united, and fully sovereign Côte d’Ivoire.”
Next Steps: The Congress of Pioneers
The transition to a formal political structure will be solidified through the upcoming “Congress of Pioneers,” which will serve as the party’s foundational event. While the exact date has yet to be announced, preparations have already begun. The atmosphere during the assembly was described as fraternal, cohesive, and hopeful, with participants reaffirming their commitment to uniting behind this new political force.
The party envisions serving not only Côte d’Ivoire but also contributing to the broader African continent and a multipolar world. Its promoters emphasize that this initiative is driven by a desire to foster unity, discipline, and collective action in the political arena.
