Mali’s Military Reports Strategic Gains Against JNIM and FLA Forces

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting control over previously contested territories targeted by coordinated offensives from the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in northern regions and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate operating across central and southern Mali.

In a formal statement, military leadership confirmed that intense clashes persisted through Sunday near Anifif, a strategic location situated roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following the arrival of additional combat resources for the MNLA factions.

The FAMA communiqué emphasized the resilience of government troops, stating: « Despite intensified pressure, Malian defense units maintained relentless offensive operations throughout the day, demonstrating exceptional discipline and tactical expertise. » The army reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to « safeguarding national sovereignty, protecting civilian lives, and dismantling enemy forces. »

In response to these claims, an MNLA spokesperson, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, asserted that the group had consolidated its position in Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He categorically denied reports of the death of the MNLA’s top commander, Mbarek Ag Akli, insisting that the leader remains actively engaged in directing military operations across northern Mali.
