Mali army regains control in key combat zones against armed groups

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared that they have regained the upper hand and full control over all areas targeted by attacks from the Azawad Liberation Front in the north and the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated faction, operating across central and southern regions.

Strategic advances in northern Mali

In a detailed statement, the FAMA highlighted sustained clashes on Sunday in Anifif, located in the northeast of Mali, approximately 110 kilometers south of Kidal. This followed the deployment of additional fighters and military equipment to reinforce the Azawad Liberation Front’s positions.

Resilience and decisive action

The army underscored the unwavering commitment of its units, stating: “Confronted with these pressures, Malian Armed Forces personnel engaged with relentless determination and discipline throughout the day, executing operations with courage.”

The communiqué further emphasized the FAMA’s unshaken confidence in their ability to safeguard national unity, protect civilians, and defeat hostile forces.

Reactions from the Azawad Liberation Front

Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, spokesperson for the Azawad Liberation Front, had previously asserted control over the Anifif area following the resumption of hostilities. However, he categorically denied reports of the death of the Front’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that the commander remains actively involved in directing military operations across northern Mali.
