Manchester City appoint Enzo Maresca as new manager, Malo Gusto set to follow from Chelsea

Across the Atlantic, Malo Gusto is part of the France squad chasing a third world star during this 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile in England, his transfer from Chelsea to Manchester City is taking shape and seems confirmed since the official announcement of Enzo Maresca as head coach.

The long-awaited announcement for Manchester City fans, without a coach since Pep Guardiola’s departure at the end of May, came on Monday, June 29. Enzo Maresca has become the new boss of the Skyblues. This is an announcement the Citizens’ management had not made since 2016 and Guardiola’s appointment. The Italian tactician has signed a three-year deal at City.

Enzo Maresca officially named Manchester City head coach

And with the aim of carrying on Pep Guardiola’s legacy and the long run of trophies won by the Spaniard (20 in 10 years). “Manchester City is a club I know very well and having the opportunity to lead this team is a fantastic chance for me. City is an exceptionally well-run club. Everything is innovative, thoughtful and done with a clear purpose. For a coach, it is an ideal environment. It gives me the stability I need to do my job in the best conditions. I can’t wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play quality football and enjoy the challenge of representing Manchester City.”

Is the deal done for Malo Gusto at City?

This official confirmation of Enzo Maresca’s signing could well seal the end of Malo Gusto’s adventure at Chelsea which began in 2023. After playing under the Italian at the Blues until January 1, 2026, the 23-year-old French international might be set to reunite with him at Manchester City. The desire to restart their collaboration at the Etihad Stadium is shared by both parties. Once the World Cup is over – the right-back is part of the France squad – Gusto is expected to swap the Chelsea jersey for that of Manchester City.
