A domestic dispute in N’Djamena has unfolded into a courtroom confrontation over allegations of adultery and financial disputes tied to marital customs. The plaintiff, a soldier deployed in the volatile Lac-Tchad region, discovered his wife living with another man upon returning from duty.

The breakdown of the marriage stems from prolonged separation due to military obligations. While the serviceman was stationed in the Lac province, his wife and their three children remained in the capital. Upon completing his mission, he found the marital home deserted. Using cellphone tracking, he located his spouse in the Bakara district of N’Djamena, living with a civilian companion.

Determined to confront the situation, the soldier traveled from the conflict zone to the capital. There, he identified the couple and immediately contacted gendarmes, leading to the arrests of both individuals. They were subsequently held in provisional detention at the Klessoum prison facility.

During questioning, the wife remained resolute, declaring her refusal to reunite with her husband and expressing her preference for her new partner.

Prosecutors presented a strong case against the accused, demanding strict legal consequences for their actions. They also requested a fine of 100,000 CFA francs for each defendant. Meanwhile, the plaintiff filed a counterclaim seeking the return of his bride price, estimated at two million CFA francs.

The defense argued on behalf of the couple, emphasizing the emotional toll of prolonged marital neglect and hardship endured by the wife during her husband’s extended absences.

After hearing both sides, the court deferred judgment, announcing that a ruling would be issued in the coming days.
