The spiritual leader of the Khadres brotherhood, Serigne Khalifa Kounta, delivered a glowing tribute to Ousmane Sonko during a visit to Ndiassane. The endorsement comes just days before the prestigious Gamou pilgrimage scheduled for September 1.
Speaking before the National Assembly president, Kounta emphasized the significance of Sonko’s background, stating: ‘Ndongo daara le, arabisan le, ku mokeul alxourane le.’ In Wolof, this phrase celebrates Sonko as a product of the daara system, a source of immense pride for Senegal’s religious and educational communities.
‘It is an honor for us, the doumou daara,’ Kounta affirmed, underscoring the brotherhood’s unwavering support for Sonko’s journey. His remarks followed a warm reception in Ndiassane, where Sonko was greeted by the Grand Khalife of the Khadres, Serigne Sidy Mahtar Kounta, and his spokesperson.
