On Saturday, July 26, 2026, a UNESCO Mali delegation led by Acting Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane attended the official launch of the 32nd national reforestation campaign at Bamako’s Palais des Pionniers. The event was presided over by General Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the Transitional President.

The ceremony brought together government officials, national institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, women’s associations, and youth groups. Environmental advocates, experts in sustainable resource management, and climate change professionals also participated actively.

The campaign, centered on « Youth at the Heart of Environmental Citizenship for a Greener, More Resilient Mali », reinforces national initiatives to restore degraded lands, fight desertification, and preserve Mali’s natural heritage. Its core focus is mobilizing citizens—particularly young people—as key drivers of ecological transition. Over the upcoming rainy season, the campaign aims to plant 21 million trees across Mali, contributing to the nation’s environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

By joining this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali through community awareness campaigns, capacity-building for local actors, and innovative solutions to strengthen ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
