The Cameroonian government has announced a second consecutive extension of the national census period, aiming to capture more households, individuals, and agricultural operations nationwide.

According to the Prime Minister’s office, led by Joseph Dion Ngute, the supplementary phase will address gaps in coverage, particularly in urban areas like Yaoundé and Douala where newly developed neighborhoods were missed during initial mapping efforts.

As of now, only 60.4% of the population has been recorded since the census began in April, leaving significant portions of the country unaccounted for.

The fourth general census of population, housing, and agriculture faces hurdles including delayed payments to enumerators—leading to sporadic work stoppages—low community participation, and linguistic barriers in linguistically diverse regions. Security concerns in high-risk zones further complicate data collection efforts.
