Union Saint-Gilloise draws with Bodo Glimt, faces crucial norway decider

In the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie, Union Saint-Gilloise concluded with a 3-3 stalemate against Norwegian vice-champions Bodo/Glimt. The high-stakes football match took place on Tuesday evening in Ostende.

The victor of this challenging encounter will proceed to the play-off round, where they will face the winner of the third preliminary round match between Greek vice-champions Olympiacos Le Pirée and NEC Nimègue, who finished third in the Dutch Eredivisie and also played to a 0-0 draw in their first leg. The team that emerges successful from the play-offs will secure a spot in the Champions League league phase, a stage already reached by Belgian champions Club Bruges.

Should Union Saint-Gilloise fail to advance past the third Champions League qualifying round against the current leaders of the Norwegian championship, they will automatically be redirected to the Europa League league phase. This isn’t the first time the Unionists have faced a challenging path in European qualifiers, having been knocked out at the third preliminary round stage by Glasgow Rangers in 2022 and by Slavia Prague in 2024.
