DRC Constitutional Debate: VSV Urges Tshisekedi to Ease Tensions

$Le Président Félix Tshisekedi à l’ouverture de la première édition de la Semaine nationale du climat, le 27/10/2025 Présidence RDC”> Amid rising tensions over a possible constitutional reform, the Voix des sans voix (VSV) has urged President Félix Tshisekedi to personally step in and defuse the political atmosphere in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a statement released Wednesday, June 24, in Kinshasa, the human rights organisation warned that the current climate could lead to an escalation of tensions and potential human rights violations if steps toward de-escalation are not taken swiftly. Félix Tshisekedi’s responsibility According to VSV, the head of state is the most suitable figure to foster calm and protect national unity, especially given the ongoing insecurity in the country’s eastern region. The organisation called on authorities to amplify messages of national cohesion and urge their supporters to stop rhetoric that could deepen societal divisions. VSV stressed that political leaders from all sides must exercise restraint to prevent an escalation. It emphasised that the nation’s higher interests should take precedence over partisan or communal considerations. In its communiqué, VSV noted that the DRC is going through a particularly sensitive period due to the security crisis in the east. In this context, preserving national unity and reinforcing cohesion among Congolese citizens is essential. The organisation also warned against speeches that could fuel political, ethnic or regional fractures, asserting that no affiliation should override the national interest. Call for respect of democratic principles Finally, VSV urged all political actors to uphold democratic principles, human rights and fundamental freedoms. It underscored that the country’s stability largely depends on the ability of leaders and their followers to prioritise dialogue and political responsibility. For the organisation, an intervention by the President in favour of appeasement could help reduce tensions and prevent further deterioration of the political climate. <div class=$
