Ousmane Sonko, leader of the PASTEF party, issued a stern warning to his supporters during a gathering in Bambey on Saturday. He cautioned that attempts to destabilize the movement may escalate, with some provocations likely targeting him directly to trigger reactions from his followers.
« They will resort to every form of provocation, » Sonko stated. « Some will be aimed at me personally. They may even try to misuse state institutions against me. » He emphasized that these tactics are designed to provoke unrest within the party and across the nation.
The PASTEF president accused certain actors of believing that undermining Sonko is the key to unsettling his supporters and destabilizing Senegal. « Their calculations are clear: if they want to shake PASTEF or the country, they must come after Sonko, » he explained.
Addressing recent challenges faced by his party, including restrictions on membership drive events, Sonko vowed that Senegal would not revert to the recent era of heightened tensions. He pledged to uphold the country’s stability, declaring, « As long as I am here, Senegal will not endure another dark period. »
Sonko’s remarks come amid a shifting political landscape, marked by the emergence of a new presidential party under Bassirou Diomaye Faye and ongoing discussions about the future of Senegal’s political forces.
