French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu landed in Rabat on July 15 for an official two-day visit, where multiple agreements are set to be signed. The trip also paves the way for a future state visit by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to France.
The delegation includes over a dozen ministers, such as Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who will finalize deals spanning economic cooperation, judicial collaboration, and defense. “Regional stability remains a top priority for both Paris and Rabat,” a government source noted, highlighting concerns over Sahel instability and rising terror threats as shared security challenges.
This visit marks Lecornu’s first diplomatic tour abroad since taking office—just a day earlier, he was in Doha to offer France’s condolences following the passing of Qatar’s former Emir, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The timing of this trip carries added significance, as bilateral relations between France and Morocco faced strain in 2021 and 2022, with diplomatic observers noting persistent underlying tensions.
