The Moroccan military delegation, led by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a significant working visit to Nouakchott this week. The high-level visit underscored the deepening defense collaboration between Morocco and Mauritania.
During the visit, General Berrid was received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani at the Presidential Palace. The meeting took place in the presence of Ambassador Hamid Chabar, Morocco’s envoy to Mauritania, highlighting the strong diplomatic ties underpinning bilateral relations.
Following the presidential audience, the Moroccan delegation held productive discussions with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi at the Ministry of Defense headquarters. In a symbolic gesture of recognition, the Mauritanian head of state awarded General Berrid the Commander Grade of the National Order of Merit on behalf of the Republic of Mauritania.
The visit also featured a key milestone: the co-chairing of the 6th Joint Military Commission by General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff. Military officials from both nations reviewed the progress of their defense partnership, celebrating the tangible achievements that have emerged from years of strategic cooperation.
Both sides emphasized the exceptional nature of the Morocco-Mauritania military relationship, describing it as a model of strategic partnership in the region. The positive outcomes discussed during the meetings reflect the shared commitment to regional security and mutual growth.
