Mali on High Alert After Assassination Attempt
Malaysia, Bamako – The Malian army has denounced an assassination attempt against President Assimi Goïta, saying it was a ‘savage and well-planned operation’ that targeted the country’s top officials.
- The attempted killing, which involved multiple vehicle-borne bombings, was thwarted by security forces, but not before several people were killed and injured.
- President Goïta was not directly targeted, but his residence was reportedly under attack.
Burkina Suspends French TV Channel
The Burkina Faso government has suspended the broadcast of French TV channel TV5monde, accusing it of ‘apologizing for terrorist acts’ and destabilizing the country’s institutions.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has condemned the decision, saying it was based on ‘opaque’ grounds that reduced media freedom in the country.
